Super long update. My thoughts on the past 6 months

Wow.. so many things happening lately. First update my zbrush work!

Its a pirate girl title name show me the money!. I spend i think 30-40 hrs , and about 10 overhrs++ for tranpose (posing), not because i am slow but its because the software died every single bloody time. Theres also a video but i didnt want to show the video because the legs are wrong pose and i didnt want to hang again by changing back the pose (i actually got lucky when i did it, because it hangs all the time in school so i tried my luck at home and after i woke up it worked!).

For people who don't know the software, when u use transpose (a plugin) ur disrupt the initial standing initial (starting) pose so all the previous sculpting is abit interuppted and u have to resculpt. But most of the times is because the software HANGS. it hangs every 30secs, how to do any fucking work sia... like wtff...... no wonder the name so fiting CheeByrush. My classmates also got the same problem.. so kinda funny when u keep hearing the CB ! Edward say it could be the workflow of the subdivision that is causing the problem.. all in all , although a frustating time but a good experience. Oh i actually got B for digital sculpting, surprisingly its higher than i thought for me

Talking about surprises. I recently got back my results, and its weird because i actually scored higher than i thought.. Most surprising is actually visual effects, which i got A for lighting and rendering, compositing, tracking and rigging. For rigging, ok i understand well. But for tracking i screwed it up badly and only fixed it when jd helps me out. For compositing ok i also understand it because it kinda work same way as flash. For lighting and rendering i tot mine wasnt good at all as it dont fit the environment light direction. Not sure how jd marked it, probably on how well i understand the subject.. even then i feel mine was a B+ at best.

Talking about visual effects, actually i was about 99% nearly join the speciliastion but during the final specialisation briefing when gary say, think about the process before and after you.. to me (modeling) is before concept... and after rigging so that is the most comfortable thats why i switched and also all my good mates in modeling :p Abit pitiful and "Yi han" that i can't learn more visual effects from whom i think is a very brilliant and knowledgable person, guess have to do more self study on it

Talking about results. Let me sum up my results, left is the topic and grade right is the grade i feel that what maybe i deserve and my opinions

Grades
Foundation B | Yes or even a B- or C+, my early works sux..
Perspective C | Yes but it could be better, because i know i screwed it up badly on the final project, yet knowing it but i didnt fix it and handed it in because i was running out of time
Film Studies A- | Yes
Character Design A- | Actually no. I felt that it wasnt very good in terms of design, but it was a different style that i tried.. and i did put in abit of effort in painting it
Storyboarding A- | No.. my final project totally has no effort.. but i did understand and learn alot on the topic
Anatomy Studies C+ | No, to be honest i think a B- although no diff la lol
Animation Body Mechanics + Princples of Animation B- for both | Yes! haha but even a C will do me fine.. i think i did try too hard for this one.. i did too hard things when i could do easier and make it look nicer
Life Drawing A- | Hmm Yes, but my style is too dead and not nice because caring for the proportion too much i guess.. there are some styles that i like alot in the class like Jerly and Anna
3d Modelling B+ | Well actually no, B- or C... again i tried something very hard for the first time, guess too stubborn. The geometry sux big time...
Digital Sculpting B | I think B- or C so not big diff
Rigging A | Yes, Loved it, very fun.. hope i dont forget the techniques
Tracking A | C
Lighting + Render A | B
Compositing A | A- or B+
Digital Painting B+ | To be honest i am alittle bit dissapointed in this one, because i put in alot of effort into learning digital "painting" but its ok la means there is more room for improvement.. anyway the master (Craig Mullins) has updated his website www.goodbrush.com , awesome...

Speaking about Life Learning Experience, i always tell the knowledgable people beside me that grades in school is really not the most important thing. It is to gauge ur progress... but whats most important is that u are learning and improving each and every single day, if not i wouldnt even quit my job when it was so comfortable with great colleagues and environment. We are fortunate enough that we belong to the art and design industry... funnily works in a way if u have enough passion and if u put in effort u will imrpove and become better and better through ur whole life... Thats why, would i get more upset if i get more C's ? no... Would i get more happy if i get more A's ? not really too... just a gauge

Talking about self initiative improvement, very happy to see some of my classmates doing own research and self improving... this always brings motivation to all the people around. Also like to thank Jeremy that day drive me back to my house to and fro from school to take my hardisk.. and also ken for changing my monitor (previously color black is purple)... really surprised man... hahah

Sometimes i dont think i can express myself properly.. like eg. in school if i dono the person i always keep to myself and don give people eye to eye contact or greet people or give smiles lol..... because i really shy la and dono how to open up easily.. maybe always give people the wrong impression, thats why this blog can write so long but speak can only 1 sentence, sighz.. how ar ?

Yeaaaa i got into modelling course and i will be working hard into it

Just finish my character design for Sacha's Class

Its about a rugby in a fantasy monster world, and i chose the character "Witch" among the 4 choices which also include Horn demon, cyclops and clowns

Again i tryed direct painting without any refence, thats why screwed up on some of the anatomy especially on the 2nd piece with the broom sticking out, like a penis ya! LOL , jon walked over and also commented on it, and give a good suggestion actually to try to change into a pillon position... like a girl sitting on a bike, but i didnt have enough time for the 5pm dateline. I will change it over the term break instead.

Digital painting #4 and #5 for Alvin's Character design class, lol don't really have much design. Went for 2 opposite styles just to practice and experiment. It was the first time i directly painted without lineart and straight out from head, learnt alot about lighting! The effect that i got from the soldier was water-color type, really wasnt finish and i think a nice environment can add in alot of mood. 2nd one is also just chop chop.. wanted to go more than that height but i thought enough la... need to pratice zbrush cause its so new to me

Today marks the last day of CGOverdrive 2009, which was organised by my school 3dsense. It was the first time i was attending, got to meet alot of talented world class professionals and artists. Got to talk to Jordan Kirk from Dneg and he talks about the process of how they do FastFurious4 and Angels&Demons, they actually modeled the whole vetican area because they are not allowed to shoot there. So cooool.

Just to summarise what was the 4 day talks was about

Day1
Alex Alvarez, Gnomon Workshop Founder, talks about his life which leads to how and why he opened Gnomon, his school has a 98% placement. Incredible rate

Kevin Mannens, talks about Fracture, a procederal destruction effect thing that could be done in 30secs, imagine a city being destructed how much time could be saved with this new plug-in

Day2
Allan Mckay, australian visual effects guy, demonstrated some 3dmax skills and talk about the importance of flexibility and working smart

Gio Corsi, Lucas film games producer, talks about their project etc, Lucasfilm Animation Singapore has 300+ employees omfg

Skan Srisuwan, formerly from IFS, now in Fzd school demonstrates his digital painting techniques and give some valuable input, easily my whole class's favourite speaker

Day3
Jeremy Cook, this guy is super leet serious. he works from 3d to 2d back to 3d, a process which makes his speed super fast. he keeps talking about efficiency, and i learnt some channel things from him, going to research more

Craig Mullins, Lgendary Master Painter,

Lee Stringer, Lucas Film animation CG supervisor, talks about the animated Clone Wars TV series etc

Day4
Mike Seymour, Another australia visual effects expert talks alot about the RED Camera, i thought he gave the best speech throughout the 4 days

Norihiko Hibino, World renowned Music Composer that composed music for MGS, zone of enders etc

My favourite speaker from all is actually Craig Mullins. His talk was really really really really and i mean really fucking deep. He actually knows alchemy too! For all those that doesnt know Craig Mullins, he is the concept artist behind the works of Matrix, apollo 13, etc Google him should not be hard to see his bio and works etc

Anyway i think he was heavily jet lagged or something, he was really tired and mumbling through-out the talk and didnt really give a satisfactory answer to some of the questions that were asked, and even trigger one guy to really ask him to paint a car instead.. But i thought it was all cool, his style may not be liked by all, but i like it! The whole class laughed though when he mentioned "pony" lol

Hi, my name is ric. And i am currently studying in 3dsense Media School. This blog is to show the progress of my works in school.
